Re: Future development of the PowerCore platform has been ceased

The Powercore firewire and 6000 boxes have been very stable for me on Mac OSX 10.5.8. I have been reluctant to go to snow leopard because of some of the complaints I read in the forums, but I will have to make the jump some day.

The system drivers for Mac and PC should definitely become open source so that our investments are not sabotaged. This would keep the hardware and software we invested in alive into the future and do a LOT for TC Electronics image.

Go NATIVE !!!!

This is definitely the most viable solution that will keep everyone that has invested into the platform on their side.  There will probably be a few third party ones that would not be transferrable (I can't imagine Access agreeing to a native version).  But free crossgrades to the softube stuff could potentially happen within days, and of course all the TC plugins should be able to be run this way.

Some folk have mentioned a Poco giveaway or deal?  Despite the fact that some Powercore owners would probably do well out of it, I can't imagine that a free or vastly reduced price plugin deal for Powercore would be a great move.  What about all the folks (like me ahem) that have bought a lot of licences already - and already own the licences they need.  This would make my investment ACTUALLY worthless rather than at the moment there is still some possible resale value because the hardware and software still has some worth for those with a compatible system.

TC Ports to UAD could be interesting, but again I think that good-will would suggest that they should be free for existing licence owners.  UAD will already get their kick back from the hardware sales and of course future plugin sales on their own platform.

If we were expected to pay to get native versions of the plugins we already own, I can't imagine the that the backlash would be worth it for TC by any stretch of the imagination.

** But free native VST/AU versions for Poco licence owners?  **
That would seem like an excellent start in getting the ball rolling for TC to get back into the modern plugin market and enough good will to go round and generate positive word-of-mouth about their software from their customers.
This really seems like the best and only genuinely beneficial solution to all at present.

Agreed.

But the UAD crossgrade thingy makes rubbish sense if native is the way they are planning to go. Doesn't it?

Re: Future development of the PowerCore platform has been ceased

@ Jackn2mpu ^ I'd say that was possibly pushing it a little bit far.  I'm sure have been the cause of some upset and frustration to various members of the audio world, but widescale death and destruction for political reasons is a bit further away from that on the scale of things.

Wherever their plugins end up, I'm not flaming likely to buy them all again - that's for sure.  And if they try that then I am not going to recommend that anyone else gets involved.

Re: Future development of the PowerCore platform has been ceased

Without the drivers being upgraded with computer systems, we are all up a creek without a paddle. Thats why I strongly recommend that the Poco drivers go open source. This would end a lot of bad will and a potential legal ramifications.

The hardware and software we already paid for is in jeopardy here.  Going to UAD is NOT an option for me because it will cost additional money.  New hardware that does what I already paid for is just plain stupid. On top of that I tried the UAD plugs and the out of the box ones are not impressive.  TC just has better all-around software, and their high end software is just that, high end.

Re: Future development of the PowerCore platform has been ceased

I purchased a Powercore 6000 late 2009 and have not been able to reliably use it since. I have constantly gone through the rigmarole of dealing with support and them not having any real clue as to how to fix my problems with the Powercore 6000, only so much as acknowledging that there are ongoing issues.

If TC were an Australian company they would be crucified by the Department of Consumer Affairs and the Department of Fair-trading. At the absolute least, before making such an announcement to provide alternative arrangements for the plugins we Powercore users have invested so much into.

A free native cross grade for all plugins should only be the beginning for our wasted time, money and energy..

As if their existing reputation wasn't sullied enough, this puts the icing on the proverbial cake. I will go out of my way to make sure that none of myself, my clients and any other engineers I know will have nothing to do with TC Electronics as a company.

Access should offer a cross-grade to Ti.

Mac+Logic+PowerCore

Re: Future development of the PowerCore platform has been ceased

Don't get me started on Access and their soft-synth! wink

They should have offered a cross-grade option from plug-in to hardware regardless IMO. Regardless even of the issues I have with them for more than half a decade!

Considering the price of the Powercore 6000 + Virus Multi-license and the Virus TI 2, we're still need something more to sweeten the deal.

Good news are that you can buy more cards for (almost) nothing...

Re: Future development of the PowerCore platform has been ceased

I'm kind of glad in a way as it's an incentive to buy UAD - anyone know if the cross grade offer applies in the UK?

Re: Future development of the PowerCore platform has been ceased

VAPORWARE -

I won't be purchasing anything from your brand or any affiliated brand Ever again. I will certainly do my part in educating any curious consumers on my experience as a TC customer - ~ a brand that once was synonymous with quality - about 10 - 15 years ago. Now they pedal cheap Taiwanese made 'musical' garbage that you might as well buy at a hobby shop. ~

I don't even feel comfortable selling this thing on ebay knowing that someone else is going to wind up getting taken for the same ride, only to find out they're stuck with vaporware.

Screw your crossgrade, I am done with any hardware accelerated devices ever again. The only acceptable solution I see is - free versions of the current plugins and/or a voucher for equal value or more of registered customers' current PoCo plugin set if they become native AU, VST etc.

Why not unlock All products that come bundled as demos???
Most of your current users probably aren't going to bother spending another penny on a plugin that simply, just might not work. Why not at least let us have the bundled ones for free without any risk on our part of wasting money on a potentially broken plugin?? I really think that's the fairest resolution you could offer.

{Vaporware definition - Vaporware describes products, usually computer hardware or software, not released on the date announced by their developer, or announced months or years before their release. The word usually implies a negative opinion of a product or developer, and pessimistic uncertainty that it will eventually be released.}

With the announcement last year of TC's 'plan for big things and new developments for the powercore platform' from Thomas / TC so long ago:
.................................................................................................................................

http://forum.tcelectronic.com/viewtopic.php?id=5252

"After that, plan is to come out with version 4.1 for MAC.

4.1, MAC.
Main thing here is support for the 64bit kernel of 10.6.

***
But that's not all.

In the beginning of 2010 we will launch a set of new exciting plug-ins for PowerCore.
I can't reveal details at this time, but I can say that we've learned from our history and will be presenting plug-ins that fall in the category of "frequently asked for" :-)

Hope you all find this well.

I'll make this post sticky and open another topic for comments."

Where is version 4.1? I think the bare minimum is a guaranteed delivery of a solid working version 4.1. Your post clearly states this and the choice of words "Promise"
.................................................................................................................................

This horse sh** officially makes powercore Vaporware. I've actually sent in a vaporware Award suggestion to Wired for sh**s and giggles - doubt they'll print it but why not eh?

I'm posting a "Petition/request" for TC to allow users to receive unlocked versions of all (or at least several more) of the plugins that come bundles in the demo. I'll post the thread link in a sec.

Re: Future development of the PowerCore platform has been ceased

Oh well, oh well.

I just hope we WON'T see the native versions, as our computers doesn't have motorola chips to run these plugins. Even TC won't put in any money to turn this powercore motorola coded plugins platform to run on PC / MAC processors as I'm pretty sure it will be cracked at day 1 .. And one other point, they wouldn't sound as good as they do now..

So... dream on big_smile

I'm glad that I sold my PoCo + Virus etc...3-4 months ago. I felt that The END is near. Free plugins for all PoCo users would be fair a deal.

Reply to this thread if you think it's a reasonable resolution...

I can only hope that TC will at least have the decency to respect their PoCo community from this point forward.

I will agree that as well. Would be fair enough from TC to let us have all the plugins they've got.

At least, I won't be putting any money on the platform anymore as it isn't supported big_smile

Re: Future development of the PowerCore platform has been ceased

IMO, This is completely unacceptable! now after all these years of supporting Powercore, we have to turn towards the competition (UAudio) and get whatever crossgrade bullshit from them, not that i hate UAD (i have 4 of 'em)

FREE PLUGINS FOR ALL REGISTERED POWERCORE USERS. TC has now just confirmed that the least thing they are about is their users.

Re: Future development of the PowerCore platform has been ceased

They LOCKED the topic to request plugin upgrades.

What is TC afraid to actually put their money where their mouth is and actually offer a fair settlement?

This is a clear indication about how they plan to continue "supporting bug reports on a case by case basis..."

It's not fair to the people who spent thousands on the extra plugins out of their own pocket... suddenly the guy who just bought the Express or the Compact or whatever now gets all those tools for nothing? I don't support that resolution.

I also don't think that the UA xgrade is a fair offer either for exactly the same reason... the person who has the new 6k with a tonne of optional plug-ins gets an identical offer to the casual user who may have bought a second-hand card and no extras.

Finally, where does this leave us with Sonnox? Are they even going to bother with making their PowerCore plugins work on the 6k anymore? Did I really spend all that extra money for nothing?
