Topic: Help with TC Near crashing!

TC Near crashes on startup. I have uninstalled TC Near and reinstalled the latest version without my Konnekt 24D hooked up. I am running OS X 10.6.2. Is anyone else having this problem? I sent an email to support here but no one has answered back.

Re: Help with TC Near crashing!

The same problem here on Vista 32 after updating to the new version (2.5). Tried re-installing the old 2.4 software but it didn't help. There are two other threads here on the forum about the same issue with the control panel but still no responce from TC Electronic and no solution. Nice.

Re: Help with TC Near crashing!

No response from TC for me either. Doesn't speak well for TC. I won't be buying their products anymore. Look for my Konnekt 24D on Ebay!

Re: Help with TC Near crashing!

Hi there.
TC Near 2.5.0 crashes on startup when device is connected. It doesn't happen when i launch it with device disconnected.

I have tried many different solutions. Recently I even bought another motherboard. Still the same problem.
Here is a list of some actions I took, to resolve that issue, with no success:
- trying 2 different firewire PCI controllers (TI chipset based and NEC)
- trying different motherboard, with integrarted FW (VIA VT6307)
- changing RAM modules
- trying all PCI slots on both motherboards
- trying few drivers versions (legacy, TI, windows drivers, unibrain, drivers delivered by controller's manufacturers and others)
- trying to remove all possible devices from my PC (removing hardware and disabling in BIOS)
- messing with IRQ
- trying to give firewire controller higher priority with PC latency tool
- trying few different FW cables (all brand new)
- reinstalling Windows few times, and starting from the beggining
- installing SP2, SP3
- installing windows hotfixes related to firewire issues (one on SP2 and one on SP3)

I'm IT specialist and never had such difficult issue.
I am looking for an answers in my software and hardware configuration, but maybe there is a a problem with the driver TC deliver. Few other people reporting the same thing on TC forum.

My setup:
- ASUS M2V motherboard (also tried DFI CFX3200-M2 with VIA onboard FW)
- AMD Athlon 64 3500+
- Win XP Pro SP2 (tried also SP3, and hotfixes)
- TI PCI FireWire controller (tried also other controller based on NEC chipset)

I also tried running TC Near 2.5.0 with Konnekt6 on different PC, with VIA onboard FW controller, Intel core 2 duo CPU and ASUS P5B-E motherboard, Win XP Pro SP2. I was suprised to discover that with this setup there were no problems with TC hardware and software. All stable, no crashes, no issues at all.

So what is the problem ? AMD CPU or TC driver.
I tried older TC Near versions. One of them worked but was very unstable.

Re: Help with TC Near crashing!

Update:
I installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and it works fine with 2.5.0 64 bit TC Near drivers.
No crashes, it seems to be very stable.

Of course, it doesn't change the fact that there is something wrong with XP.

Got a link?

I'm sorry for your problem, sometimes it's a computer problem.
I have Vista32 and a laptop without praise or blame (no TI FW), and konnect 24d works fine.
I had removed "aero", but my VGA works best if there is, so I reset it.

Politically Corect

Re: Help with TC Near crashing!

Was this problem addressed? As noted in another posting, I'm looking to migrate to Mac but I'm trying to look at the forum for possible issues before I get caught up in it. (Currently my konnect x32 works on Win Vista)

Re: Help with TC Near crashing!

One obstacle I personally came up against with my two daughters was the limited choice, but I do live in a rural area. IfATAyou live in a big city then the chances are there will be many to choose from and you can have a look at the various classes available to see where you think your child will best fit in.
