Big Ups, TobiasDM for putting together a spreadsheet to track these things in!
I made a spreadsheet on Google Docs, so we can share presets/patches...
I took the liberty to use graag49's patches as example of how to post your stuff.
Please follow some simple groundrules, so the spreadsheet don't get messy. They are in the sheet.
To view but not edit the spreadsheet, check it out here: http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key= … BOatGXM00g
If you want to be able to edit the spreadsheet, you need to contact TobiasDM. He's posted further down in this thread.

I've been building patches & learning the ins/outs of my NV, so just thought I'd throw
some settings out for you to try. Here's a "platform" patch that would make a nice loop or background rhythm fill:
MOD...Tremolo Speed: 5.62 HZ Tempo:1/8 T Depth: 99%Type: Hard Width: 39% Hi Cut: 15.8 k
_________________________________________________________________________DELAY (Tape): 547 Tempo: 1/4 Clip: 0 db
Feedback: 28% Hi Cut: 12.6 k Lo Cut: 50.1
Mix: 31%
__________________________________________________________________________PITCH (Octave) Direction: Down Range: 1 oct Mix: 20%
_________________________________________________________________________
DRIVE (Distortion) Gain: 12 Tone: 40%Level: 10 db Boost: 7 db
__________________________________________________________________________Those 4 footswitches are the only ones engaged, so it's truly a matter of personal taste how you can add and/or subtract from this basic patch. I'm just having lots of fun experimenting, so there you go.
"Wicked Game" as it sounds pretty much like the guitar used in this song:
SPRING REVERB
===========
Decay- 8.0s
PreDl- 100ms
Mix- 70%
Size- Huge
Color- Clear
Hi Fac- 0
LoCol- Tight
LoFac- 9
RoomL- 0
RevLe- (-6)
Diff- 0
Shape- RoundViIBRATO
======Speed- 0.841hz
Tempo- Disable
Depth-50%
HiCut-15.8k
And this is in a couple of other topics, but here's a Leslie simulation using the chorus:
Advanced Chorus
Speed: 5.15 Hz
Depth: 5%
HiCut: 10.0kHz
Cho DL: 50.0ms
Ratio: Off
PhaRev: On (stereo only)(this is for the g system, so one or two of those parameters don't apply)
It sounds pretty good. I have the mix fairly low so that the effect isn't too overpowering.

For anyone out there who is not familiar with EQ frequencies I am posting some links that you may find useful:
http://www.sirgalahad.org/paul/music/eq … tml#guitar
http://www.homemadehitshow.com/EQTips.htm
Programming a parametric EQ takes LOTS of experimentation. That said, you can start with the following ranges.
Bass:
Center Frequency: 100 hz - 200 hz (I'd start about 150hz or so)
Width: about 1/2 - 1 octave
Treble:
Center Frequency: 5khz - 10khz (I'd start about 7khz)
Width: about 2 octaves
Mid:
Center Frequency: Anywhere from 250hz to 2.5khz, depending on the sound you want.
Width: 1-2 octavesRunning a narrow treble with a high center frequency can turn the treble into a "sizzle" control, which can be VERY cool.
I love the factory tap tremolo preset. Try playing around with it picking for each swell of the tremolo. Use an open string for a base drone and then pick out a melody / rhythm over that. Really cool effect. Sounds a bit like a synth because of the unnatural attack and decay of the note. Plus a ringing bass drone gets articulated in individual notes.
To add to that, give it a little overdrive to break up the tone a little bit. Then add a delay set to dotted 1/4. This will give the delay an offset from the tremolo effect. Then play a riff that times up with the tremolo, it ends up getting copied by the delay but offset after the next note in the riff.
I think those are all the patches that everyone has posted across the forum so far. Please add yours if I missed it.

Here is a link with a tempo calculator that can be useful for delay and reverb.

Well, I added a patch for the guitar solo from Comfortably Numb to the spreadsheet. I'm playing through a Fender Blues JR with a Music Man Silhouette guitar using the humbuckers, and have it eq'ed on the amp.
I'd love to get some feedback as this is the first time I've really tried to copy someone else's tone. Let me know what you think!
yossarian,
Your patch is great. Quite versatile depending on the pick-up and Gtr volume too. I love it Thank you! As a side note, I used the other night during a practice for a lead i was doing. The second part of the lead needed some more gain so I clicked on my external drive pedal. WOW! The gain & delay from your patch along with the external pedal created an beautiful hi-gain sustaining dream!
Just as an FYI, I played through a Parker Fly and a Les Paul. Both use Duncan Customs. Amp: Rivera 30 Watt Tube Combo and a Fender Lux through a 2x12.

Hi Yossarian,
For some reason it didn't do the trick for me... ![]()
Maybe because I'm using a fender with single coils and I didn't set the NS EQ (it's better than my amp's EQ). I'll have to dig it to find the right sound for me. But thanks anyway, you did a great job defining the Reverb and Flanger and I'll definitely use your settings.
I think Gilmour uses a delay as well in this solo. Thanks again.

That's part of the issue with posting patches. Amp, guitar, pickups, and any extra stuff in the mix can make a HUGE difference in how something sounds. It's pretty good on my rig though. Hope you can use that as a base line to get the sound you're looking for.
Also, with respect to the delay. I didn't really hear a lot of delay in the recording I was using. It may well be how he's getting that "big" sound, but I used the reverb instead.

Maybe It would be be nice to post some effect settings in " emulation" of some well known effects .
example : gilmour "breathe " phaser, van halen phaser ,rotary emulation, fuzz emulation ( dist+eq) etc etc
it will be a good starting point for our patches

Hi everybody !
Does anyone build a Carlos Santana preset on nova system ?
I'd like to play songs like Samba Pa ti, Europa , Oyé como va I think it would sounds good on nova system
Hi All,
I needed a Metallica sound last night in a pinch. I grabbed the F5-3 - Thrash Rhythm and altered the setting a tad:
Drive: 28
Tone: 12 - 16
Level: -1
Boost: 6 - 8 (I went to 10 at one point and the boost with the higher bass in the EQ just about pushed me over.)
The result was amazing. The tone has a huge bottom, nice balanced top. The bass notes are tight (not flopping in the wind). You may need to play with your tone depending on your amp.
I set this is up with one patch on sparkle clean and then another with the above. I use the G-Swtich for fast switching on patches. It was "Enter Sandman" and "Breadfan" goodness.
Just a reminder that there is an area to share patches located at:
https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key … &hl=en
If you have some good patches, please share!
Just joined the forum... in the works to buy a Nova... and I must say this sharing of patches ROCKS!!! Thanks to everyone who is contributing!
Out of curiosity, is there any reference documentation providing the settings for the factory preset patches?
Last edited by garysmithjapan (2009-09-25 08:12:25)
garysmithjapan, I am not sure I understand your question? Many of us have used the factory presets and saved them to user presets and tweaked to define new sounds. In any of the factory presets you can go into the menu and see their settings.
Jawa, (call me Gary, please!)
Sorry I wasn't clear. I don't have the system, yet, and I am a complete and utter novice. What I was hoping for was something I could print out that would let me compare the patch settings and gain some kind of understanding of how and to what extent the parameters are tweaked and (after I get the system), gain some understanding as to how those tweaks alter the sound.
Of course, I could just wait until I get mine and do as you say, check out the settings in the menu. I just thought it would be useful to have the information compiled in an easily accessible format.
Hey Gary,
I see. Unfortunately, there is no chart that gives the actual settings for each of the presets.
Here is what I can tell you, the Gary's lead and Women Tone are two very nice places to start if you are looking to tweak the drives. Also, Peter Thorn's settings (http://www.tcelectronic.com/novasystempresets.asp) are fun to dial in and tweak as well.
Thanks, Michael. It's a shame, but I guess you can't have everything...
I already pulled Peter Thorn's settings off the web site, and will take a copy of the patches that have been shared in this thread. Now, all I need is Nova so I can start fooling around with it!
Gary,
How are you doing with the NS?
Hey, Michael,
Don't have it, yet. My brother will order it for me from the US and have it shipped to Japan. Hopefully, I'll get it before the end of the month (especially since my b'day is the 24th!)
I've read virtually all of the posts on the forum, though, and this is a terrific resource! It has done an incredible job building my excitement about getting the system.
FYI, as a guitar hack (never gig), I'll probably have the least professional system of anyone using NS! It'll be a Blade R-4 Classic (before the rerelease) --> expression pedal (to be purchased - most likely the EBjr) --> NS --> (get this!) Marshall G15RCD!
(http://www.marshallamps.com/downloads/f … %20Eng.pdf)
Too bad I had to get rid of my (what I think was called) Mesa 22 Caliber. It simply had too much power to play in a Japanese apartment - would blow down the wall between my apartment and the next! But I miss the tube sound. Although, honestly, I'm not too concerned about feeding the NS into a solid state amp. I'm sure it will do anything I need it to.
It will be interesting to see how the variable spectrum controller on the Blade before the NS will impact the sound...
As for sounds I'd like to emulate, does anyone know how to produce the sound Jerry Garcia used to get playing in the JGB? The best way I can describe it is "planky". You really get the sense that his instrument is made of wood.

Gary,
Per some of the latest posts, I think the key to getting the best sound out of the NS is spending time to make sure that the input gain and output range are correct. The amp you are using (smart for an apt in Japan. I spent some time there years ago so I understand your plight) will be fine. In terms of the Garcia sound. I think this will be something that you will need to play with since each setup is so different. My first guess will be that tweaking the overdrive to a neutral setting and perhaps pulling out some mids on the EQ will help.
