Topic: TC RH450

Well I actually ordered one yesterday. The Rebel Head 450.
Delivery is expected Wed or Thurs. of this week.
It is not cheap here in Canada.
It will be interesting to see just how it holds up to the weekend warrior use it is about to be thrust into.

Re: TC RH450

BASSically speaking....
The Rebel Head 450 arrived about a week ago.
Quite a nice (SMALL) package, along with a single dual 10 cabinet.

Tried this combo out practicing on some tunes I needed to brush up on. Wow!! would be an understatement. I dialed in but did not refine the presets.. To date they are still not dialed right in. I have moved some of the EQ's but they will be dialed in gradually from here on. They will also help dial in the speaker cab You use. Is a great feature.
The next thing I did was use the amp with each individual speaker cab I own.
The cabinets do make a big difference in the sound.
What I have settled on cabinet wise in the TC dual 10 along with my Aguilar dual 12 cab..
This setup gives a nice round bottom end and nice mid / high definition.. It really does sound awesome..
I have had one full band practice with this combo and have received thumbs up from the other guys in the band. They just can not believe that such a small package delivers such a huge sound.
So my weekend warrior rig will consist of the RH450, RS 2x10 & Aguilar 2x12.
I will carry a standby head just in case but hey that should be a common practice. I just wish it was another RH450 smile not the 45lb. boat anchor.

I have used a lot of different gear over my 42 years of playing and find the RH450 very easy to set up & tot around too.
I guess between now and October I'll get a real good Idea of just how well the little monster is going to stand up as it will be on the road quit a bit over the next 5 months..

I also broke down and ordered the foot switch RC4 and gig bag for the head. They have not arrived yet.
The reason I ordered the foot switch is for the presets. I can see a lot of use happening with them just from the short time I have had the head. It will make it a lot easier to switch between them during songs.

Until next time.

Re: TC RH450

Well first gig done and behind me with this rig.
3 one hour sets.
It took me all of 10 minutes to set it up
and make final tweaks for the room.
The amp really packed a punch, filled and articulated very well.
Volume setting about 10:30 on the dial. running the SR210 and Aguilar 2x12.
The deep low end I have set up really loaded the room up. So I ended up just tweaking the low control down a bit. 2 clicks on the dial.. All done.
Room was of a medium size venue.
This amp was not even hot after each set which surprised me I thought for sure it would be.. Still need to tweak the P EQ's a bit.

Oh yeah this thing packs real nice into my mini van didn't break my back loading it either. Leaves lots of room for other gear.
I guess we will find out how the cabinet finish is going to hold out.
One move - already some scuffs but no finish removed.

The guys in the band were quite amazed yet again, that this little head could sound so big & accomplish so much.
Unill next time

This is by far the best bass system I have EVER used!
(i have used just about everthing out there in the past 30+ years)

TC Electronic Test Pilot

Re: TC RH450

Well here I am again.
A few more gigs behind me using the rh450 rs210 and Aguilar2x12.
Amp continues to be solid and tight. You have to watch the tube tone, sound tends to get a little loose if you use too much of it. It was awesome at the last gig maybe because I'm getting it tuned to the Musicman Bongo5 I'm using.. One of the guys asked me if I had turned up .. No was my answer. I was just playing a little harder which came out loud, clear & tight.
So far I have to say this little amp has been just great. I have no trouble at all with getting my sound out.. and there is lots left if I need to turn up. Having the rs2x10 on it's end sure makes a differance in what you hear from this rig  as well.

Since my last post I have received the travel gig bag for the head just to transport it with some protection and I got the foot switch for selecting the presets & tuning. Yes I bought them..
The foot switch is very very well constructed and should withstand many a heavey foot on the switches. It also will mute the amp for tuning if you wish.. It is worth the money and you should get it at the same time you buy the head.. You will not be disapointed.
I used it extensively last gig. worked flawlessly, never even missed a note when changing pre sets during songs.

The Rs 2X10 is not on the other hand standing up well to the riggers of the road cosmeticaly.. It is already showing wear (scratches and scuffs) from rubbing against other gear.. I guess a cover would be in order if you plan on road tripping this cab to any great extent. I think that if it had been carpet covered it would stand up better with out covers.
These things do not alter the sound it pumps out ..I just like my gear to stay as new looking as possible.. So don't forget you will need a speaker cabinet cover if road tripping this.

I have to say it is the best  sounding rig I have had the pleasure to use to date hands down..
It sure saves me carrying the pre amp, power amp combo I have been lugging.
It has sure taken a back seat. I'm actually thinking of retireing that set up even though it is a year old.. the rh450 just out dose it with tons of tone..
I'm waiting now for a larger gig where I have to plug into the main pa board. That should be interesting to say the least.

Untill next time

"Just an Old Man that Rocks"

Re: TC RH450

Today is Sunday.
I got in at 5AM this morning from playing a gig up North in cottage country..
Was a good gig and the club owner wants us back again so All was good I guess.
I had a great time with my rig..
Had to put it through a big board last night.. It worked out OK.
The DI output was supplying lots of signal to the board and it was set up with no real difficulty.
They left my strip flat so I could come out of the head post with my sound already dialed in. It was real cool..to have no hassle..

Rig worked its heart out and still was not even warm so I guess the engineers have the right size cooling equipment installed in this head..

Sounds that this rig makes still blowing me away..
I think for once I spent my money on the right thing..

The moveable Perimetric EQ's were a brilliant addition as well. You can really dial in with these 4 PEQ's and I love em..

Rs-210 still taking a beating from the road but is still sounding great.

so I have a couple of weeks off now untill next gig which will give me some time to play with it some more at home.. More tweak time ..LOL

Until next time BASSically speaking.

Re: TC RH450

Well It is Friday evening, almost. I'm finally off work for two weeks.. Holiday time..
But the band is booked so tomorrow night we are in a new place, will be a new setup.
Looking forwrd to it.
While getting the gear into the Montana late this afternoon ( Yep I always get it ready the night before the gig, it saves so much time come gig day) I noticed as I was double checking that all the gear was there, that the RS 210 was actually scrapped in a few places. They were not quite through the cabinet finish but close. I'm definately NOT a fan of the FINISH you used TC Electronic. Regardless of how much you put in to researching this finish I can definatly say BOOO HOOOO on you for using it. You would have had better ware out of a carpeted cabinet. I truelly figure that come October this cab will look terrible.. On the other hand the Aguilar which is carpet covered looks just like new in comparison and is two years old not a few months old.
On the plus side the RS210 still sound great..But it bugs me that such a new cab is starting to look so old..worn actually.. Oh well a cover would sure have made a differance.. Be warned that if you are going to use the CT cabinets with the finish supplied to get some covers at the same time.. Covers will make a big differance in how the supplied finish will last.

As aside note it would be neat to see the P-EQ setting that everyone uses.
The settings may even help others to find new sounds. Just a thought..Maybe I shouldn't be thinking I usually get in trouble when I do ..LOL

"Just an Old Man that Rocks"

Re: TC RH450

HEY There..
It's Saturday August 15th.. The Montana is packed and ready for the run into the South end of Etobicoke which is on the West side of Toronto. Playing a place called Timothy's tonight.

I continue to be impressed with the  RH450 2.0 . It still remains strong and punches out the great Bass sound I have come to rely upon smile  .
I actually had a female bassist come up to the stage wanting to have a look at it at last gig.
So it really must be doing it's job for another bass player to want to check it our. She was very interested. Unless of course she was just checking me out. Using the amp as an excuse.. Hey the RH450 2.0 could be a chic magnet too ...LOL

The other guys in the band still comment on it at every gig.
I have now started using it to practice at home. I used to use a different practice rig when running tunes at home practice but now find it far inferiour to the RH450 2.0.. I have retired it and have actually sold it. Relying even more on this great TC bass amp.

I still continue tweaking the presets. I have one I use most of the time and am very happy with it. It really brings out the sounds of The Music Man Bong5. Im trying to set one of the others as sort of solo preset for the times only the bass and drums are playing. To give a little more snap to the passages untill the other guys are back in..I'm close but no cigar yet.
The other I play with here and there at home to discover the endless possibilities of the feature. I'm sure I'll set it on something soon as I try it out every time we play out to see just how well or not it fits with the entire band.

The RS210 Finish is well what can I say that I have not already (Awefull comes to mind.)
It is very easy to transport though and sure keeps your back feeling well.
It remains a very tight solid sounding cab and sound wise is great.. I should have got the RS 410.. Now that I have used the 210. If the 410 preforms as great as the 210 it would be an awesome addition, to bad I can not afford it right now I would definatly have one If I could afford it. I'll just continue on with the Aguilar 2x12 for now I guess.

Untill next time

"Just an Old Man that Rocks"

Re: TC RH450

Wow it is September already !! Where did the summer go?

Well there are a few more gigs under the 450 2.0's belt. It still sounds as solid as it did when I first powered it on. So the bottom end is still sounding good.
I have 2 out of the 3 presets pretty much set. The 3rd pre set is going to be used for the accustic pickups in the bridge saddles of the Bongo5. I have it sort of set but it still needs a bit more tweaking to get that accustic sound I'm looking for.

One thing I have noticed on the RH450 2.0 is the instrument input on this head.
I've been caught a few times with the input cable being only partialy inserted.
The input connector feels like a balanced input. When you are inserting the guitar cable into it. It gives you the feeling you have pushed it all the way in when in fact you have not. Caught me by surprise more than once so now I make sure the guitar cable is pushed all the way in. So Watch for that if you have not stumbled upon it already.

The band is booking into December now and that means I will have more ware and tear on the Rs210 cabinet. The next time I unload the van at home I'll try to remember to take a couple of picture of the finish and post for you to have a look at.

Untill next time.

Re: TC RH450

Here it is the end of September. It is like time has exelerated ..but I do have some pic's of the RS210 cabinet.
I just need an easy way to post them up here. Is there an easy way??
Can you copy and paste?
Anyone.

Other than that the RH450 is working well. It is still punching out the sound. I have noticed with this head that fine adjustments are needed in every venue I take it into, sorta like tuning it to the room. It really shows you the difference in each place I play. So one can not getaway with one setting and play every venue with it.
You will have to tweak the head.or guitar settings. I'll tell you though it has really shown some big differences in rooms tonally..

If there is an easy way to post a pic I'll show you the cab and what happens to the finish with road work.

"Just an Old Man that Rocks"

Re: TC RH450

Great review and it has helped - I think my decision now lies between the Combo450 or getting the seperates.

The main advantage I could see with getting the head and 210 rather than the combo is that I could, in theory, just drag the head along for recording/ gigs where I can borrow a cab.

Is the 210 easy to carry for say...... 15-20 minutes?  Sometimes there's no taxi's and it can be a little walk from tube to venue wink

Cheers

Re: TC RH450

First off let me say that I am sorry for not being here to answer your question.
I have been battling cancer for the last couple of months..
My world crashed just this past October with the diagnosis..

BUT thanks to doctors and surgeons I am on my way to recovery.. Had to cancel some gigs for this month (November).
But am going to try to play the December gigs.. I hate letting the other guys down..

I wouldn't really want to carry the RS 210 for very long..Even though it is small is still is about 38 pounds. Great for slinging around at gigs during set up but to carry for 20 minutes no thanks..

The head on the other hand you could carry just about any where any time..

So before I ended up in hospital I was trying to post some pictures of the scuffs and scraps on the Rs210 cabinet..

I have the pictures just need to know how to post them up here ... ANYONE????

Re: TC RH450

Dude - I'm glad to hear that you're battling and on the road to recovery.  My best wishes go out to you man.

I may get a little fold-up trolley if my arms can't cope with the weight then wink

As for attaching pics you need to use the image tags.

If you have a Flickr account or similar; sling your pics on there and use the pictures URL in between the [img]and[/img] tags when you're posting smile

Hope that helps.

Noticed that you had put in the URL rather than the image source.

The cab does show some battle scars indeed.

Good luck - hope that after this trip to the hospital you're up and grooving full-time!

Re: TC RH450

You call those things 'battle scars'??

Re: TC RH450

I've gigged mine half-a-dozen times using public transport and I think the fact that I've had a cover for the cab since buying it has saved it from a similar fate.

I hope that the new coating stands up better to being packed away - it is supposed to be for working bassists after all.

I wouldn't mind so much but BASSically sounds like he's not the kinda guy to throw his gear around.

Re: TC RH450

Well here I am again.
I have a golf ball hole in my side that has to heal from the inside out. Go figure..
Well better than the other option (being dead) LOL..

JayGarrett ..
Thanks for your help with the pic's man.. I appreciate your help.
I never throw my gear around And most of it is racked in cases so I get no real gear damage or road rash..
So to see this cabinet getting worse as time goes on really bugs me..
I am actually thinking of covering it in a black carpet material  see the aguilar cab pic.

I'll see as I get feeling better.

Newbold .. considering this cab is just 8 months old ..I do consider these battle scares.
This finish scratches up like no other I have ever seen on a cabinet..
My old vinyl  covered cab is in better shape at 20 years old.

Any how I'm still extremely happy with the sound and set up I'm using..

I sincerely hope this has been of use to anyone who has read it.

All the best and rock on..

Re: TC RH450

BASSically Speaking.

I took this head and the Aguilar 2X12 to an audition the band did last weekend.
I decided to leave the Rs210 at home for this as I did not want to be taking too much in with me.
Plus I was using the FJ Cruiser without the trailer.
OH yeah bought a new truck along with a new fully enclosed trailer for hauling the gear.
Is nice..

The combo was awesome, I'm still blown away by this amp.. It is still running cold after each set.

Oh and by the way we were offered  New Years Eve after 5 songs..
So I guess we passed the audition..

Rockin' On
