Topic: Input level varies between effects?

I posted this to tech support also, but I was eager whether someone else is experiencing problem like mine:

"The input lights indicate different input levels between different effects on my G-Sharp unit. For example a delay effect is engaged and the input level is adjusted correctly according to manual (LEDs light up yellow, occasionally red). After that when changing to e.g. Vintage Phaser effect, the lights peak red all the time, instead of yellow."

I am still wondering why the effect should affect the input level of the unit...?  I would assume that the signal level is measured BEFORE the effect block in the signal chain, so why does it affect the INPUT signal level indication? Or would this be caused by a software issue in the unit, or lack of processing power etc.

Re: Input level varies between effects?

Answering this myself, after acquiring some info from the tech service and fiddling around with couple of guitars:

Apparently the output of the humbuckers on my ESP is so high/has lots of bottom-end that it causes the g-sharp to hit red more than for example a Strat with single coil pickups. So I  have to find out proper settings on the preamp to complement the higher output of the humbuckers.

Re: Input level varies between effects?

Hi,

Well it seems that i have the same problem. While keeping the same guitar and pickups selection I have more "power" when using the Chorus section than the delays.  This happens when using any guitar. So for my case it seems that the instrument has little influence on this matter.

Though it's true than some pickups have that effect on the sound. When playing with a PRS Custom 24 on the humbuckers position I get a saturated tone which is cool and handy but the problem remains when changing the effects section of the G-Sharp. In fact I use a Forum III from Fame too and the problem remains on the G-Sharp inconsistent level output.
