Re: Steen's Optimizing Blog

PC/MAC installation optimize guide.

(LAPTOPS is a different story, try disabeling all that you dont need Bluetooth,WIFI..etc...)

It´s very important that you fully update Windows/MAC OS before you install any Konnekt/Powercore drivers, so when you have finished installing windows from your CD/DVD:(This actually goes for any system TDM PROTOOLS etc., anything that uses MS as OS.)

1.    Click the update windows" which if found in all programs" .

2.    On XP click the Custom"  button for updating, and in the right side of the screen you have 3 catagories under Select by type" , High Priority, Software Optional, Hardware Optional.

3.    When these 3 all read (0), you system is fully updated VERY IMPORTANT, if your system tells you that it needs to reboot..then REBOOT, and start from 1.
(NOTE: When updating from SP2 installation, make sure to get all updates under CUSTOM and other updates first before installing SP3)

2.    On VISTA/WIN7 is a bit easier, just click Check for updates" , and again    VERY IMPORTANT, if you system tell you that it needs to reboot..then REBOOT, and start from 1.

For both systems its of course very important once in a while to check for new updates!.

After this is done, check your Device manager for any UNKNOWN HARDWARE or other yellow !?

XP or VISTA/WIN7: To check this click Start, right click My Computer and click Properties

Click Hardware" then Device Manager"  on XP.
Click Device Manager"  in the right upper corner on VISTA/WIN7.

and install the drivers you may need.
Its pretty important you dont have any unsolved issues!.....

Unresolved issues may make your system spike, because the os is trying to find a driver for it.

Your now ready to install the Konnekt/Powercore driver.

the following is TESTED with TCNear_213_4677-5_331
http://www.tcelectronic.com/files/beta/ … -5_331.zip

Tjeck your DPC Spike Tjeck Tool, idle 0-1000 is ok, but above you might have a hardware issue.

XP 32 BIT and optimizing:
Well nothing much to say, it actualy runs pretty ok after install of all updates and the newest TC NEAR/POWERCORE driver.

Idle:
Our AMD Athlon 5000+ with NVIDIA NFORCE chipset is typicaly 20-80
Our INTEL Quad core 6600 with Intel 945 chipset is typicaly 76-100
With Cubase 4.52 running:
Our AMD Athlon 5000+ with NVIDIA NFORCE chipset is typicaly 50-1500
Our INTEL Quad core 6600 with Intel 945 chipset is typicaly 1500-1600

VISTA 32 BIT and optimizing:
I know this is a compromise of microsofts security, but disabling AUC "Advanced User Control" under Control Panel/Users actualy improves stability and functionality and that goes for a lot of app.
But now you system is compromised so DONT SURF for all your crasy stuff and so on.

MAC OS X 10.4 and 10.5

1.    Click the Apple in the top left corner and click “Software update"
2.    Install the updates….. VERY IMPORTANT, if you system tell you that it needs to reboot…..then REBOOT
3.    Check again after any reboot, until “Your software is up to date"  is found.

that’s basically been my guidelines the last 10 years that I have worked with software, and after this and it still dos´nt work there is either a hardware issue like Incompatibility or data corruption.

Hardware issues: SEE TROUBLE SHOOTING

But just to clarify UPDATE your system…..before you use it.!!!!!!!!!

Re: Steen's Optimizing Blog

Some things you should´nt do to your PC when using it for Audio/Video recording/editing.

1. Never run without a antivirus scanner.
2. Dont surf, A PC is not a floatation device...No... meaning dont surf for stuff like Cracks/XXX etc. on the computer that you use for Audio/Video recording/editing.
3. Never move PCI/PCI EX cards unless you are experiencing problems.
4. Never update hardware like CPU/RAM/GPU/1394 without reinstalling OS and updating.

Re: Steen's Optimizing Blog

Trouble Shooting PC´s

1. Which tools to use
2. Check your firmware of Motherboard/GPU/1394/DVD/ etc.

1. Hardware issues: I have the last 5 years used these 2 tools to check my pc´s:
MEMTEST86  http://www.memtest86.com/ ,FREE memory based test tool download the ISO burn a CD with it and boot on the CD, typical if your computer can run 1 cycle your ok, but interms of incompatibility run it for 16 hours to make sure.
(Any red lines remove all you RAM memory and start with 1 RAM block at a time and so on.)

SeaTools for DOS http://download.seagate.com/seatools/re … la/desktop for harddrives of the brand MAXTOR/SEAGATE, you can tjeck your harddrive for bad sectors etc. Download the ISO burn it and boot from the CD.
(Use this tool with care, you can by faulty use erase you harddrive, it will prompt you though.)

Its very important that you use DOS based tools to check your hardware, use these tools to clarify if your system is ok HARDWARE wise before you start installing etc.

When running tests in OS i found a repetative test with 3DMark®06 (Build 1.1.0) http://www.futuremark.com/download/ for like 16 hours offen seem to crack the housing if there is something to crack.(you have to buy a licens)

Another test for OS is SHUTDOWNKING PRO: ShutDownKing PRO 5.12(Or any reboot tool for Windows) Run a cycle of reboots every 2 min or so, for like 16 hours, can make faulty harddrives/motherboards fail.

There are loads of other tools out there, but in these i trust!.

Incompatibility: Some hardware just dont work together, it has become more rare the last 2-3 years, but it still happens, if you suspects it, try getting the same hardware from another manufacture with a different/newer chip.

2. Firmware issues is another unknown factor for us here at TC, but when you have issues with your computer and you have tried reinstall and still dosnt work, try looking into which firmware you PC uses.
things that likely has firmware set in the order that could influence your system to perform badly for Konnekt/Powercore products:

MOTHERBOARD : INTEL/ATI/NVIDIA/SIS/VIA/AGERE etc.
GPU´s Graphicscard NVIDIA/ATI/MATROX etc.
DVD-+R SAMSUNG/SONY/LG etc.
FIREWIRE 1394: TI/VIA/AGERE etc.

Check with you manufactorers web page for updates.

If you have any tools you have used for testing and you trust!, please let me know at: konnektbeta@tcelectronic.com

To be continued......

Re: Steen's Optimizing Blog

BETA TEST GUIDELINES!

As a beta tester we expect you to test the installers we send to you.

The tests are usualy running for 1 week to 1 month, depends on how fare we are with the release, so after you get the EMAIL with the installer it´s important that you report any issues back to us as fast as possible.

Reporting errors/issues back to us is only by EMAIL, we want you to include screenshots or video/audio, and a 5 line description of what the problem/issue is.

1 issue pr. Email.(always include DXDIAG.TXT for PC and System profiler saved as (UTF-16) from MAC)
(How to generate DXDIAG.txt/Systemprofiler.txt:
PC: Click start/click RUN/type DXDIAG/press ENTER/press YES/Click SAVE All INFOMATION and save it to your desktop.
MAC: Click the Apple/click About this MAC/click More Info/click FILE/click SAVE AS/choose UTF-16 as file format/click Save.)

and send it to Konnektbeta@tcelectronic.com or pocobeta@tcelectronic.com.

Use JING from www.jingproject.com to make Video/audio or any other flashbased recorder.
PC - the default audiodevice in the windows control panel will record audio, so loop 2 outputs to 2 inputs.
MAC - the default audiodevice in the Audio control panel will record audio, so loop 2 outputs to 2 inputs.

Pretty simple and pretty easy!

Install
Report only 1 issue pr. email.(always include DXDIAG.TXT for PC and System profiler saved as (UTF-16) from MAC)

YOU ARE NOT TO SHARE ANY INFOMATION OF ISSUES/TEST CRITIRIA IN THE BETATESTs ON ANY FORUMS.
The installers you recieve are in most cases not the final release.
