Topic: tuner stability

Greetings all,

Can anyone give me some pointers on the tuner? When I try to tune it seems to jump all over and never settles on the note I'm playing. I've tried picking the string at the 12th fret, near the bridge, directly over the soundhole, 12th fret harmonic etc, with no luck.

Thanks in advance,
Henry

Re: tuner stability

With all acoustics:

Electronic tuners, especially sensitive ones, are easily confused by the presence of lots of nth-order harmonics. Freely translated - the better and more complex the tone of your guitar, the more confusing it is for a digital tuner.

If you dial down your tone control (if you have one) then you will get more stability from the tuner, since this will attenuate many of the high-order harmonics.

Re: tuner stability

Laird,
Thank you for the response. I noticed that you have a fishman pro EQ in your signature equipment list. Do you use this along with your G-natural? I was planning to replace mine with the g-nautral and I'm wondering what advantage I would gain by using both.
Thanks,
Henry

They are two different beasties.
I use the Fishman for preamp/EQ and the G-Nat for everything else.

I hate muddling around with 1-line menus and knobs for an EQ.
Menu-driven parametric EQs are just NOT my thing.
Give me an array of sliders at approximately the right frequencies so I can SEEEEEE my EQ setting at a glance and then let me at it ;-)

I plug my guitar in the the Fishman, run the fishman XLROut into the mic in on the G-Nat with a nice 1' mic cable. I power the Fishman from the G-Nat Phantom power.

Works and sounds great.

Re: tuner stability

I often use my guitar tuned a half step down so when I dropped the low E string to Db the tuners does not "hear" that note, anyone has this problem too?
