Topic: Confusing info on channel switching for Mesa Single rectifier

Ok I have spent hours searching for the correct information and I have read ideas that contradict each other..

I have a Single rectifier solo 50 Ver2   I read on another thread in this forum, that I can just use 2mono cables to 1 stereo trs cable into the g system  Like this

http://www.showmecables.com/images/catalog/product/1-4-y-cable.jpg.ashx?format=jpg

Then I read this
http://tcsupport.custhelp.com/app/answe … oogie-amps

The following answer applies to these models: (older)Dual and Triple Rectifier, Rectoverb, Lone Star and Lone Star Special, Solo 50, Roadking, Express.

According to Mesa Boogie Tech dept, these units require an isolated ground connection for each of the rear panel 1/4" external switching inputs. Since Y-Split cables are sharing the ground, they cannot be used from the G-System or G-Major (which output connection is TRS) because they could cause damage to the amp switching network.

You can still use mono cables from the GMajor / G-System to any of this amp. This will obviously divide by 2 the switching possibilities since only 1 relay per output can be used.

So which is it....  All I really want to do is change the channel on the mesa from clean to dirty, if I can also select the Solo channel  then great...   am I able to run 2 separate mono cables from the G system to the Channel & solo on my amp... ?

Any help would be great.

Cheers

You would need to contact Mesa to find out if the Solo 50 V2 has the same issue with common ground on the switching jacks that the orignal Solo 50 has.

That said - if this is ALL that you are switching, you can use two MONO (TS-TS) cables with the G, since the G has FOUR relays on TWO switch jacks anyway. You'd just be using switches 1 and 3 rather than 1 and 2. This method will work on the Solo 50 V2 no matter what the grounding limits on it happen to be.

See my white paper so you can understand the G's switching model.

Re: Confusing info on channel switching for Mesa Single rectifier

I think I will just do as you described. Im guessing there is  no difference using the y cables as apposed to 2 mono cables, as long as I get the same outcome. Unless there is a benefit to using the stereo to mono cables..?

Cheers  and thanks for taking the time to respond.
