Topic: G System DI-Box for loops with Marshall

Hey guys!

I'm using the G-System with 4 cables method on two of my Marshall (1959SLP and 2203X)

I had trouble with the effect loop on these amps with the G-System (some kind of impedance mismatch). So I bought a stereo DI-Box (as suggested somewhere) to connect my two amps between the effect loop send (amps) and the loop return (G-Sys). Now, it sounds good, but there is a loss in volume and gain on the two amps. The loop is set at 0db on the G-Sys. Is it normal?

I think its a good DI-Box... Radial ProD2.

Thanks!!

Nobody?

Hi, this is off-topic but; could you please be so kind as to compare 1959SLP against 2203? I have the 2203 reissue, but I do not have the option to test 1959SLP myself, but I am heavily interested on building a stack of 1959 with 1960HW cabinets. Therefore, would like to hear your comments...

Best Regards

This is normal, as DIs generally also pad the signal that passes through them. You have two choices:
1) Instead of a DI, use a buffer (which will resolve the impedance issue without the side-effect of padding the signal.
2) Add a clean boost between the G-System output and the amp FX return to restore the signal that was padded off by the DI

I think that you would do better with (2) at this point. ANY good clean boost will do.

Yeah, two of them sound great! 1959 being  more raw, bit fatter and less compressed. My personal fav is the 2203, more compression for leads and more gain and more aggressive.

Thanks for you response Laird! I will check that!
