Nova System interface

Hi Guys.
Can anyone tell me, if it is possible to update my nova system via a MIDI keyboard.
I have an E-MU Xboard 49 connected to a IMAC via usb lead and the keyboard has a midi out socket and lead to go to the nova system. i tried to update my nova system this way, but did not seem to work. can anyone tell me if it is possible this way.
