Topic: NS in fx loop, displayed marginally input in spite of inputgain to max

i've looped the NS in my new jca22h (line input naad mode) and i'm a bit surprised that the input level meter shows virtually little amplitude even if i set input gain to max. the audible level seems normal, great sound (by ear, input gain on 19, output range on 8) . i followed the tc instructions. strange is that i've not noticed the problem with other amps.
because the sound is not audible affected, it does not really matter. but anyway i'm interested, which setting causes this

Re: NS in fx loop, displayed marginally input in spite of inputgain to max

I don't really understand these stuff but I know that using the Drive input solves it.

Its something to do with your fx send and impedances.

Re: NS in fx loop, displayed marginally input in spite of inputgain to max

thanks for the cues, so I found other posts

Re: NS in fx loop, displayed marginally input in spite of inputgain to max

tried the drive input and short cable on fx send, with input gain up to 24 the level meter shows a max of 3 bars.
any suggestions

Re: NS in fx loop, displayed marginally input in spite of inputgain to max

Hmmm that just sounds wrong. With your guitar going direct into the Nova can you get higher input readings than that?

Re: NS in fx loop, displayed marginally input in spite of inputgain to max

with the guitar plugged directly into the NS, everything is as it should be. it seems to be a common problem of the soldano circuit. i've ordered a line driver/attenuator  http://www.glab.com.pl/sa-1_en
we will see

Re: NS in fx loop, displayed marginally input in spite of inputgain to max

with the line driver in front of the NS boosting the fx send by 14db (max) and using the drive input, the level meter reaches a max of 5 bars. the audible volume is still adjustable to the "original" level with nothing in the loop. curious. i'll try to test by ears if the line driver makes sense at all for the sound quality.

Re: NS in fx loop, displayed marginally input in spite of inputgain to max

Setting the input gain IMO is quite essential for the Nova System.

Did you set the attenuation to 0 on the GLab? This indeed seem a little over my head.. Hope you do get it resolved

Re: NS in fx loop, displayed marginally input in spite of inputgain to max

Same thing on the 5150III 50w. I don't really get it, it just seems to show no input but the sound is fine?

Re: NS in fx loop, displayed marginally input in spite of inputgain to max

probably the input meter is in some cases simply useless to deal the fx send level. i'll go on by ears

Re: NS in fx loop, displayed marginally input in spite of inputgain to max

I just played a jam session today and brought along my Laney Cub12R... Plugged the nova into the loop and didn't totally forgot to set my levels right until I heard clippings coming from the speakers. Then saw the clipping indicator on the Nova and realized that the input was too high.. I had it on 12 and I had to put it all the way down to 3 without it clipping!

Of course this was played with the amp volume on 10 and gain on about 5... Yes it was loud. Perhaps turning your amp volume louder will affect your fx send output as well?

Depends if the "master volume" on your amp is ACTUALLY an "inside the power amp" master volume or just a glorified "preamp output level." The former will have no impact on the signal level entering the FX loop, since the control comes after the loop in the power amp section of the amp. The latter, however, is another story, since the loop will be after that.

Actually come to think of it, I turned the gain and that was what increased the output to the loop. It was something really different from playing at home since I couldn't push the amp to THAT levels.
